Professor Pietro Micheli joined Warwick Business School in 2012, where he has been Course Director of the Executive MBA and Course Director of the Distance Learning MBA programme, ranked #1 in the world, by The Financial Times rankings.
Over the past 20 years, Pietro has worked as a consultant, mentor and facilitator with over 60 organizations, including Astra Zeneca, British Energy, BP, Emirates Group, Jaguar Land Rover, KLM, Poste Italiane, Shell, Vopak, Wartsila, United Arab Emirates Government, Council of Europe, UK Cabinet Office, Department of Health, House of Lords and the National Audit Office.
Pietro's research interests focus in two main areas:
• Design and innovation management: Pietro has worked in the areas of design thinking, strategic design and new product development. His research has resulted in publications in leading academic journals such as the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Research Policy, and the Journal of Product Innovation Management. In his recent British Academy funded project, he focused on the use of design thinking as a means to connect digital innovations to improving people's lives. He is currently undertaking research in the areas of design thinking, ethics and sustainability.
• Strategy implementation and performance measurement: Pietro has undertaken research on the design, use and impact of performance measurement systems, and on the introduction of performance improvement initiatives in private and public sector organizations. His research papers have been published in leading academic journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Public Administration Review, and Long Range Planning. He is currently researching the impact of performance measurement on organisations' capacity to improve and innovate, and the development and review of measurement systems in dynamic environments.
Pietro has lectured in over a dozen European academic institutions and is currently Visiting Professor at Cranfield’s Centre for Business Performance and Visiting Fellow at the University of Bologna. At Warwick he has been awarded nine teaching awards over the past four years.
